WATCH: Trump Steals The Show At The NFL Draft After Legend Shares ‘Message’ From POTUS

President Donald Trump unknowingly stole the show during Thursday night’s NFL Draft after former Green Bay great Clay Matthews broke from scripted remarks to read from a satirical faux-message he purportedly received from the man himself.

The six-time Pro Bowl champ shocked the audience when he pulled from his pocket a note while declaring he “just got off the phone with the president, Donald Trump.”

Almost immediately, a thunderous cheer filled the auditorium.

“He asked me to pass a message along to all thirty-two NFL franchises,” Matthews stated. The nervous energy around him was noticeable as a handful of other presenters looked on beside him.

Thankfully, the “message” was one the whole room could agree on.

“It says, ‘My fellow Americans, the Bears still suck!” he screamed.

Evidently, nearly all of the thousands in attendance appreciated the humor, a reminder of Matthews’ playing days when he was a walking, breathing nightmare for Chicago’s offensive line. He made history in 2017 when he became the Packers’ all-time leading sack artist while taking out Bears quarterback Mike Glennon.

He retired after spending the 2019 season with the Los Angeles Rams and counts a Super Bowl ring at home from his 2011 season with the Packers, his third in the league. He finished with a 16-3 record against the Bears, including 9 1/2 sacks.

Others on stage with Matthews included NFL commissioner Roger Goodell — who received audible boos — as well as Jordy Nelson, Mason Crosby, Ahman Green and James Jones — and rapper Lil Wayne, a noted Packers fan, The Athletic reported.

Matthews’ dig was just the latest of a player teasing a rival franchise in front of millions at home. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Drew Pearson famously trolled the 2019 Draft audience, which was filled with a number of Eagles fans. Ex-Eagle David Akers returned the sentiment the following year, reminding Cowboys country about Philadelphia’s seemingly endless sports titles over the past 20 years.

The intermingling of sports and politics has been a hallmark of President Trump’s second successful campaign for office. He attended several NFL games, including the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs back in February.

During the 2024-2025 season, a string of players celebrated their touchdowns with the “Trump dance,” a take on the president’s grooves while on stage at several rallies that year.

Nick Bosa, the defensive end and former Defensive Rookie of the Year, mimicked Trump’s habit of pumping his fists after completing a sack during the 49ers’ 23-20 win over the Denver Broncos. Just weeks earlier, Bosa was fined by the league for wearing a red Make America Great Again hat during a TV interview.
