A United Airlines jet struck a bakery truck on the New Jersey Turnpike as it approached Newark Liberty International Airport, according to local reports and company officials. The truck driver suffered minor injuries, and the plane landed safely.

The aircraft was a United Airlines Boeing 767-400, according to reports. The flight was identified as United Airlines Flight 169, arriving from Venice, Italy.

Senior vice president of Transportation & Logistics at H&S Bakery, Chuck Paterakis, said the driver was traveling from Baltimore to New Jersey when the plane made contact with the truck. Fox Baltimore reported the driver had minor injuries.

Dashcam footage from inside the bakery truck captured the moments before the impact. The driver appeared relaxed and was singing as a whistling sound grew louder overhead. He looked up as the plane approached.

The video shows one of the jet’s wheels striking the truck’s window, sending glass into the cab. The driver, who was not identified, suffered small cuts and was treated at a local hospital, KATV reported.

“To me, that everybody on that plane, everybody and the driver, God was looking after them, there’s no doubt,” Paterakis said.

“If we did that scenario again, I don’t know if anybody could’ve survived that.”

The plane continued its approach and landed on Runway 29, which runs perpendicular to the highway. Incoming aircraft routinely pass over the turnpike at low altitude before touchdown.

None of the 221 passengers or 10 crew members were injured, United said.

“Our maintenance team is evaluating damage to the aircraft and we will investigate how this occurred,” a United spokesperson said.
