WATCH: Vance Honors Charlie Kirk In Powerful Memorial Speech

Vice President JD Vance paid tribute to the late Charlie Kirk and emphasized that America should honor his legacy by turning towards Jesus Christ in a passionate memorial speech.

The vice president — a close friend of Charlie’s who has long credited Kirk with launching his political career — told the capacity crowd at State Farm Stadium that he has affirmed his faith more over the past two weeks than at any other point in his public life.

“I always felt a little uncomfortable talking about my faith in public, as much as I love the Lord and as much as it was an important part of my life. I have talked more about Jesus Christ in the past two weeks than I have my entire time in public life,” Vance told the crowd. “That is an undeniable legacy of the great Charlie Kirk. You know, he loved God. And because he loved God, he wanted to understand God’s creation and the men and women made in his image. Now much has been said over the last week about Charlie’s ability to approach any topic.”

The vice president went on to describe Kirk as a down to earth, kind person, which was especially evident behind closed doors. Kirk treated every staffer, supporter and anyone he met with the same kindness and respect he would show to President Trump and the most prominent political figures in the world, he added.

Vance then directed his attention to the outpouring of hatred and celebration of Kirk’s murder from the radical left, but also made sure to highlight the courage and spirit of revival displayed by Kirk’s supporters following the assassination. He further stated that over the past 11 days, he has wished he could ask Kirk for his thoughts on the current situation.

“And here’s what I think. I think he would encourage me to be honest that evil still walks among us. Not to ignore it for the sake of a fake kumbaya moment, but to address it head on and honestly as the sickness that it is,” he said.

“But I also think he would encourage me, he would encourage all of us to focus on the good, he would encourage us to remember that for every hateful voice celebrating his murder, there are a thousand people mourning it and fighting for his legacy every single day. He would tell me to pray. I’m certain of it. He would tell me to pray for my friends, but also for my enemies. He would tell me to put on the full armor of God and get back to work.”

Vance closed with a touching tribute to Kirk’s life and legacy. “It’s better to die a young man in this world than to sell your soul for an easy life with no purpose, no risk, no love, and no truth. Christ told us in the Gospel of John, I have said these things to you that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but take heart, I have overcome the world.”
