While many Christians count themself as Trump supporters in 2024, Alan Ritchson is not among them.
The “Reacher” star recently released a bizarre rant on his YouTube channel where he questions why churchgoers support a “rapist” and “con man” on the verge of recapturing the White House. Ritchson’s comments, noted by the American Tribune, fly in the face of his previous recommendations about how Christianity should be spread in the public sphere.
“‘Do no wrong to the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow,'” Ritchson says in the clip as he quotes Jeremiah 22: 3. “When I think about this, I think about an entire platform by those who mostly claim to be Christians who are doing the exact opposite of this with their voting power. Who are trying to do violence to the foreigner!”

He continued, “Who are not helping the fatherless, who are making victims of widows. Do no wrong to the violence of do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow. This is the kind of generosity. We are called to and it’s for everybody. It’s not just for believers. It’s not just for those who have been indoctrinated into the church. It’s not just for those who are American or fit your nation state or fly your flag. It is for everybody!
“If you want to see violence flee the world, be more generous to everybody! That is the Christian ethic! That is what I that is what I don’t see happening. And when I speak up about it in my own ways, I’m met with violence. The antidote to violence is generosity. Generosity is owed to individuals, not to institutions.”

Ritchson’s remarks, delivered on his InstaChurch YouTube page, track closely to past criticisms of Trump compiled by the Tribune. Last month, Ritchson shared in a tell-all interview with the Hollywood Reporter that he doesn’t understand “today’s Christians” and their support of the Republican.
“Christians today have become the most vitriolic tribe. It is so antithetical to what Jesus was calling us to be and to do,” he explained to the outlet. It also upsets him that some Christians have so closely aligned with former President Donald Trump. “Trump is a rapist and a con man, and yet the entire Christian church seems to be treat him like he’s their poster child and it’s unreal. I don’t understand it.”
Conservative fans of Ritcher’s performance as vigilante ex-Army officer Jack Reacher were understandably furious with his condemnations of Trump. Sebastian Gorka, the conservative commentator who served in the former president’s cabinet, slammed Ritchson, telling the 41-year-old to “shut your pie hole” when it comes to “political views” and “keep doing your play acting.”
Predictably, some on the right like original anti-Trumper Bill Kristol came to Ritchson’s defense. “Reacher dislikes bullies, bigots, frauds, and con men. Of course he’s Never Trump,” he wrote on X.

It should be noted that even Ritchson, like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is hesitant these days to go on the record endorsing a president who purports to be Catholic but uses executive action to try and overcome the end of Roe v. Wade. Other actors, like Jonathan Roumie, the 49-year-old actor who plays Jesus Christ in the series “The Chosen,” prefer to tout their faith while keeping their political views to themselves.
