Would-Be Trump Assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks Donated To ActBlue

The shooter who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump donated to the progressive fundraising entity ActBlue in 2021.

FEC records indicate that Thomas Matthew Crooks, a native of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, donated $15 to ActBlue on January 20, 2021. This was the same day of President Biden’s inauguration. While Crooks donated to Democrat causes, he was also registered to vote as a Republican. One of his parents is registered as a Democrat and, while the other is a Libertarian.

Crooks — who was 20-years-old at the time of his death — grew up in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bethel Park. His parents are both licensed counselors, according to Pennsylvania records. His father worked at a local behavioral health provider, according to his LinkedIn profile.

President Biden stated in an Oval Office address on Sunday that federal investigators have yet to identify a motive. The FBI has not located a manifesto or a note, and Crooks was not on the agency’s radar at the time of the shooting.

One former classmate described Crooks as a “loner” who was frequently bullied in school.

According to a report from the Associated Press rally goers noticed a man climbing on the roof of a building located roughly 130 yards from the Trump podium.

One officer climbed a ladder to the rooftop and encountered Crooks, who pointed his rifle at the officer and forced him to retreat. Crooks then quickly took a frantic shot at former President Trump and was neutralized by U.S. Secret Service snipers within seconds.

One of the shots fired by Crooks grazed former President Trump’s ear, while another struck an innocent bystander in the head and killed him. The deceased victim has been identified as Corey Comperatore, a retired firefighter and father of two who died while shielding his family from gunfire.

TMZ obtained footage that shows the moment Crooks opened fire. People can be heard yelling “he’s got a gun” as they attempted to clear out in the seconds leading up to the shooting.

The Secret Service has confirmed that the building Crooks fired from was located outside the security perimeter despite its close proximity to the podium.

Investigators recovered an AR-15 rifle near Crooks’ body. It has been determined that the weapon was purchased by Crooks’ father, though it is unclear how the gunman was able to obtain it, or whether he used the gun with his father’s knowledge. Crooks’ family is reportedly cooperating with the FBI in their investigation.
