The baseball world was met with heartbreaking news this weekend as former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner announced the sudden passing of his 14-year-old son, Miller.

In a statement shared by the Yankees’ official account on Sunday, Gardner and his wife, Jessica, expressed their devastation over the loss of their youngest son, who passed away in his sleep on the morning of March 21.

“With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller,” the statement read. “He was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation.

“We have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep.”

Miller, described by his parents as a beloved son and brother, was deeply passionate about sports, particularly football, baseball, and golf. His love for the outdoors—hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends—was a defining part of his young life.

“He lived life to the fullest every single day,” the Gardner family said.
