‘You Will Be In Prison’: Letitia James’ Press Conference Gets Hijacked By Heckler
New York Attorney General Letitia James got an earful from one constituent on the ironic news that she will now most likely stand trial for charges not dissimilar from those she wielded against President Donald Trump in 2023.
Fielding questions during a town hall, James listened without interruption as a male New Yorker rose to ask if she plans to “apologize to President Trump” for attempting to prosecute him for real estate fraud.
“How does it feel to know that you’ll be in prison for mortgage fraud?” he said over booing from the mostly supportive crowd gathered to hear the Democrat speak. Handlers rushed in to boot the MAGA man, who smiled and pumped his fist while panning the crowd with his phone’s camera.
James did her best to avoid taking the bait.
“We want to thank everyone for their opinions. Everyone knows those allegations are baseless. They’re discredited,” she shouted over applause.

James, who famously declared that “no one is above the law” while prosecuting Trump for allegedly falsifying real estate transactions, is now ironically on her way to becoming a defendant in a very similar case.
Late last month, a federal mortgage loan agency turned over documentation to the U.S. Department of Justice concerning a property James purchased in Virginia, which she listed as her primary homestead, an impossible situation given her state constitutional obligation to primarily reside in her elected state of New York.
Other discrepancies on property paperwork appeared to show the Democrat listing her father as her husband — potentially an attempt to obtain more favorable home loan terms given to married couples — and undercounting the number of units in a Brooklyn brownstone in what may have been a bid to avoid costly safety upgrades for the building.
In recent public appearances, James has sounded defiant while accusing the White House of weaponizing the Justice Department to target her for prosecuting Trump. She has referred to the investigation as one leg in the president’s “revenge tour” and vowed not to back down.
“You want me to sit in my seat and stand idly by and allow this craziness to happen? You can come after me if you want, but you elected me to stand up,” James screamed at a recent speech after news of the probe became public. “I will fight on!”
A rep for the attorney general told the New York Post, “Donald Trump promised a vicious revenge tour when he ran in 2024, and he’s put Attorney General James at the top of his list, and we’re ready to respond to these attacks.”
Early this week, state lawmakers quietly inserted a $10 million amendment into a draft of the state budget that would allow James or other public employees facing federal prosecution to tap taxpayer funds for their defense bills. Critics have decried the carve-out as a “Letitia Loophole” meant exclusively to benefit her in a personal case unrelated to her official duties as a public official.
Federal authorities, meanwhile, have officially launched a criminal probe into the allegations of fraud surrounding James. The FBI and local U.S. attorney’s office have partnered to probe her 2023 purchase of the Virginia property, sources told The Post. Both declined to comment.
