AOC’s Comments On Kimmel’s Dismissal Backfire After Damning Clip Resurfaces
Liberals outraged by the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show are watching as their words come back to haunt them, none more so than “Squad” Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
The Bronx Democrat practically sang her celebration in April 2023 when Fox News fired Tucker Carlson in the wake of a gargantuan settlement over the 2020 election. Carlson was accused of making on-air comments that cast doubt on voting machines made by Dominion Systems and speculated whether their technology cost President Donald Trump the 2020 election.
As part of its $787 million payout, Fox agreed to part ways with Carlson, who has since gone on to become a GOP kingmaker of sorts, holing up in the woods of rural Maine and making millions while producing his own independent content.
But for a brief period of time, things appeared bleak for Carlson, and AOC posted an infamous Instagram live stream dancing on his career’s early grave.
“Tucker Carlson is out at Fox News. Couldn’t have happened to a better guy,” she smugly proclaimed with a smile.
“Deplatforming works. And it is important, and, uh… good things can happen!”

For years, Democrats suggested that Carlson’s rhetoric incited violence on the right, a charge that swung back around and began hitting mainstream entertainment figures like Kimmel following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Kimmel’s cancellation came after his opening monologue on Tuesday, when he suggested that President Donald Trump and his allies are “desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.”
Within hours, Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr accused ABC of elevating a voice of violence on its network, leading syndicator Nexstar to protest carrying Kimmel’s show on hundreds of stations across the country. The company is in the midst of merger negotiations that Carr has the potential to deny by claiming that one-sided political commentary is against the public interest.
Critics of Kimmel were also gleeful to note his “fake news” assertion that Americans would “die” unless they received the COVID-19 vaccine.

Other Democrats who celebrated Carlson’s firing at the time included Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), who wrote that he “will not be missed.”
“This program was a sewer of countless lies and hate spewed out every single night. One of the leading election deniers and opponents of democracy in America and abroad will no longer have a primetime platform,” Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) said in a tweet, The Hill reported. “That’s a good thing.”
Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) tweeted “good riddance” while Seth Moulton (D-MA) wrote, “Crazy thought, but maybe it’s time to face some consequences after blatantly lying to millions of Americans and actively eroding democracy for years.”
On Wednesday, Moulton fumed, “Donald Trump and the Republican Party are hellbent on silencing any speech that hurts their feelings. This isn’t just cancel culture, it’s state censorship. And it has no place in our democracy.”
