Three cast members of TLC’s reality series “Meet the Putmans” were killed over the weekend during a significant car crash that sent five more family members to the hospital.

Bill “Papa” Putman, the patriarch of the TV-friendly family, along with his wife Barb or “Neenie” and daughter-in-law Megan, died when an 18-wheeler ran a stop sign and collided with their Jeep. The fatal crash occurred at an intersection in Cass City, a sparsely populated city north of Detroit, according to a statement from the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office.

“I come to you with a heavy heart asking for your prayers,” the family said in a statement. “Our family was in a tragic car accident and we lost Papa, Neenee, and Aunt Megan. They have gone home to be with the Lord.”

Megan Putnam’s husband, Blake, and their three children, Lulu, Alena, and Noah, and niece Gia are listed in critical condition after surviving the horrific accident.

“Please keep Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia in your prayers as they remain in the hospital, we are asking for complete healing and strength for each of them,” the statement wrote.

The semi-truck driver and a female passenger were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The family reiterated that “all proclaim that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. He is our hope, our peace, and our salvation. Even in this time of heartbreak, we rest in knowing that God is in control.”

“Thank you for every prayer, message, and act of love,” the statement added. “Your support means more than words can express. Please continue to lift us up, that our hearts remain fixed on the truth that Jesus conquered death so we could have eternal life.”

The patriarchal married couple had just celebrated Bill’s birthday three days before the crash, according to a social media post made by Barb and spotted by the NY Post. In it, she praised her “incredible husband” for their decades of marriage.

“You, Bill, are my best friend and I am so grateful for you. You bring joy and laughter into my life. I am who I am because of you,” Barb said on Instagram. “You are an amazing husband, an awesome dad, an inspirational papa and a faithful friend.”

The Michigan family starred in one season of “Meet the Putnam’s,” which ran for 2017 and covered the difficulties of three generations living together under one roof. The show was not renewed, but in 2021, the family started their own YouTube series chronicling their lives under the title “Growing Up Putnam.”
