NEW: ICE Agents Involved In Major Car Crash In Minnesota

A multi-vehicle crash left one person injured Wednesday morning after federal agents pursued a driver through St. Paul’s Cathedral Hill neighborhood, authorities said.

The collision happened around 9:30 a.m. near Western and Selby avenues, just outside Nina’s Coffee Cafe, drawing a heavy law enforcement presence and a growing crowd of onlookers.

According to a St. Paul Police Department news release, “federal agents were pursuing a person in a vehicle when the vehicle crashed.”

Police said the individual being pursued suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Officials did not immediately release the person’s identity or provide additional details about why federal agents were attempting to stop the vehicle.

Images from the scene showed significant damage to multiple cars. A red sedan appeared to have heavy damage along the driver’s side, while a black minivan sustained front-end damage on the driver’s side. Local media reported that at least three vehicles were involved in the crash.

One of the vehicles spotted at the scene carried Texas license plates. Federal immigration agents, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, have frequently been observed using vehicles with out-of-state plates during operations tied to ongoing immigration enforcement efforts.

The crash unfolded in a busy neighborhood as pedestrians and morning patrons gathered nearby. Police worked to secure the area while federal agents remained on scene.

Two nearby public schools were placed on a “secure” protocol in response to the activity, according to a St. Paul Public Schools spokesperson. Under that protocol, students are brought inside and exterior doors are locked while classes continue as normal inside the buildings.

Authorities have not confirmed which federal agency was leading the pursuit, though ICE operations have drawn protests and heightened tensions in parts of Minnesota in recent weeks.

No officers were reported injured. The crash remains under investigation.
