BREAKING: Red State Air Force Base Put On Lockdown Over ‘Threat’

MacDill Air Force Base near Tampa was placed under a shelter-in-place order after officials said a threat was made against the installation, according to the base’s social media updates.

“We take all threats seriously and are taking appropriate measures to prioritize the safety and security of our installation,” MacDill said in a post. “As a matter of policy, we will not release specifics on what security measures have been implemented.”

The lockdown comes just days after a separate security scare at the base’s visitors center at the Dale Mabry Gate. Officials said a suspicious device was discovered there Monday, prompting traffic to be diverted to the Bayshore Gate.

After that incident, MacDill said it elevated its security posture to FPCON CHARLIE, a higher force protection condition that triggers tighter entry procedures and increased vigilance.

“This posture allows us to implement deliberate security measures proactively. All personnel should remain vigilant, follow the direction of security forces, and report any suspicious activity immediately,” the base said in a follow-up post.

MacDill is home to U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM, the command at the center of Operation Epic Fury, the United States’ military campaign against Iran. The base’s role in that mission has kept it in the national spotlight as the conflict continues and concerns about threats at home remain elevated.

The heightened security posture also comes as MacDill mourns losses tied to the ongoing operation. Three U.S. airmen assigned to MacDill were among the six service members killed in a refueling aircraft crash in Iraq, according to the base. Officials said that crash was not the result of enemy fire or friendly fire, but remains under investigation.

No additional details were immediately released about the nature of the new threat that triggered Wednesday’s shelter-in-place order. MacDill said updates would be provided through official channels and urged personnel to follow directions from security forces and report anything suspicious.
