ESPN Star’s Arm Amputated After Harrowing Car Crash: ‘Incredibly Fortunate’

ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller revealed Tuesday that his left arm was amputated after a serious car crash in Missouri left him with life-threatening injuries.

Miller, a father of two and a longtime NFL draft insider, shared the update on X, saying he was airlifted to Mercy Hospital after the wreck.

“Last week, I was involved in a serious car accident in Missouri and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital. I’m deeply grateful for the exceptional care I have received, from the first responders to the doctors, nurses and medical staff. I’m incredibly fortunate to be writing this,” Miller tweeted.

Miller said the crash left him with severe injuries, including broken ribs and multiple fractures.

“As a result of the accident, I sustained significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs. I also underwent a life-saving amputation of my left arm. While I have a long road ahead, I’m focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time.”

The ESPN analyst also thanked fans, friends and colleagues who have reached out since the accident.

“Thank you for the overwhelming support, prayers and kind messages – they have meant so much to me and my family during this time,” Miller said.

Despite the devastating injury, Miller made clear he is already focused on recovery and a return to football coverage.

“I look forward to continuing my recovery and getting back to ESPN to talk football, including what should be an exciting 2027 NFL Draft class.”

KOAM News first reported the crash, which happened Wednesday afternoon in Jasper County, Missouri.

According to the report, Miller was driving a 2023 Bronco on Route 96 when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a semi-truck.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Friends of Miller told KOAM that he “has a long road to recovery.”

Miller has been with ESPN for five years and currently works as a year-round NFL draft analyst.

Before joining the network, he spent more than a decade as the lead NFL Draft writer for Bleacher Report.

The crash has drawn an outpouring of support from the football world, where Miller has long been known for his draft scouting, analysis and year-round coverage of the league’s next wave of talent.
