“We’re Looking for a Flat Ban”: DeSantis Announces Massive Plan to Take on Chinese Ownership of US Farmland

During a recent appearance on FNC’s Tucker Carlson Tonight, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke out about he and Florida are fighting back against Chinese ownership of US real estate, particularly highly valuable and important US farmland tracts.

During his conversation with Tucker, Governor DeSantis told him that Florida is looking to take strong steps to stop the Red Chinese from gobbling up farmland and other tracts of real estate in the Sunshine State, telling him that Florida was looking at creating a “flat ban” on Chinese ownership of communist Chinese land purchases.

Tucker introduced the topic, asking Governor DeSantis how he plans on dealing with rising real estate prices, in part boosted by CCP purchases, pricing out ordinary Americans. In his words, “So one of the challenges is in Florida, so many people have moved here, but real estate prices have gotten really high. “Foreign countries, China specifically buying up more real estate doesn’t help any American. This is happening in other States as well. What is your idea for dealing with this?”

Governor DeSantis didn’t pull any punches in his response, telling Tucker that Florida wants no “CCP land purchases” at all and is planning on stopping the Red Chinese and their shell companies from buying Florida land by creating a system that can scrutinize purchases and try to stop CCP land purchases, saying:

“We want no CCP land purchases, and obviously, they are not going to do it directly. They will have shell companies, so we’re going to have to have a system in place to scrutinize this.

Continuing, DeSantis questioned why some seem willing to let them gobble up important land, particularly valuable farmland and land near military bases or other critical infrastructure, saying “But why would we want them buying farmland? They had very little farmland in the United States, even 10 years ago. Now they have significant holdings, not as much in Florida, but you do have it in other parts of the country. Why would we want the CCP to own land near a military base or own critical infrastructure?”

DeSantis then got to the solution Florida is looking for, saying that he and the Florida legislature are “looking for a flat ban” of CCP purchases of Florida’s land, saying “So we’re looking for a flat ban, and so we’re going to work with the Florida Legislature to get that done.”

Ending, DeSantis then again emphasized the threat posed by Chinese ownership of American land and questioned why America has been letting them gain leverage over us by buying up the land, saying:

“Tucker, American policymakers for a generation have been empowering the CCP. They said it would end up working out. China would become a democracy. In fact, this is a very serious threat to our country. Why would we want them to have even more influence over American society than they already do?”
