Feud Between Tucker Carlson And Ben Shapiro Escalates: ‘He Doesn’t Care About America’
The ongoing war of words between Tucker Carlson and the Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro escalated this week after Carlson accused Shapiro of caring more about foreign conflicts than issues that directly affect the American people. Shapiro responded by rejecting Carlson’s statement as “absurd.”
During a discussion with Saagar Enjeti of Breaking Points, Carlson appeared to take shots at Shapiro and other conservative outlets such as Breitbart News for spending focusing on foreign conflicts while the U.S. is facing existential crises, such as the collapse of the southern border. Without naming anyone directly, Carlson was seemingly speaking in reference to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip that erupted in the aftermath of the October 7 attacks in Israel.
“I mean, there are people, and I stopped reading any of it, but there are people on the right who have spent the last two months, every single day focused on a conflict in a foreign country as our own country becomes dangerously unstable on the brink of financial collapse with tens of millions of people who shouldn’t be here in the country,” Carlson said. “We don’t know their identities or the purpose of their being here. Like stuff that’s could destroy the country for real and make it impossible for my kids to live here. They’ve said nothing about that. And they’re focused with laser intensity on foreign conflicts.”
Carlson went on to claim that the outlets and pundits in question “don’t care about the country at all” after pointing to the fentanyl crisis as an example of an issue plaguing the United States.
In reference to Shapiro specifically, Carlson said “I can’t imagine how someone like that could get an audience of people who care about America. Because he doesn’t, obviously.”
While speaking with Megyn Kelly, Shapiro responded by rejecting the notion that he does not care about the ongoing crisis on the southern border or other issues facing Americans, stating that he has talked about those issues at length.
“First of all, he attributes to me a bunch of things that simply are not true. If anybody has listened to my show, which has a few listeners, over the course of the last several months, you’ll see that I talk about all the issues that he mentions there, including the border issue, all the time,” he said.
“I think it’s part and parcel of something that Tucker has had a habit of doing recently, which is, we disagree, therefore you don’t care about the people that I care about, you don’t care about the country. It’s an absurd accusation,” Shapiro continued. “It’s unfortunate. I certainly don’t feel that way about Tucker as much as I disagree with Tucker, as much as I disagree with Tucker, as we’ve said on a wide variety of issues.”
Carlson and Shapiro have exchanged jabs numerous times since the war in Gaza began.
Shapiro previously took issue with an interview Carlson did with GOP presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy, who argued that the United States needs to stay out of another conflict in the Middle East at all costs. The Daily Wire founder accused Carlson of downplaying atrocities committed by Hamas militants, adding that issues with fentanyl and the border are entirely different.
“Of course America should have closed borders when it comes to this sort of stuff. I’m on the same side as Tucker on that. I just don’t understand why he’s not on my side when it comes to Hamas has to be wiped off the face of the earth. What exactly is the counter argument?” Shapiro said in response to the interview.
