WATCH: Joe Says Hunter Biden ‘Has Done Nothing Wrong’ Ahead Of Possible Federal Charges

President Joe Biden defended his troubled son Hunter in his first interview since announcing his re-election bid. “My son has done nothing wrong,” Biden told MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle.

“I trust him. I have faith in him, and it impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him,” Biden said.

The president’s comments come as Hunter Biden is facing potential federal charges on tax and gun-related offenses. He has been under investigation since 2018, though prosecutors are reportedly nearing a decision on whether to bring charges after Hunter Biden and his lawyers met with prosecutors last week.

U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who was appointed by President Donald Trump, is leading the investigation.

According to a 2020 report from Fox News, Biden is potentially facing two misdemeanor tax filing charges, a felony tax evasion charge, and a false statement charge over a gun purchase.

While speaking to MSNBC, Biden went on to argue that he is one of the most qualified presidential candidates in U.S. history. “Why would an 82-year-old Joe Biden be the right person for the most important job in the world?” Ruhle asked.

“Because I have acquired a hell of a-lot of wisdom. I know more than the vast majority of people and I’m more experienced than anybody who’s ever run for the office.” Biden said. “And I think I’ve proven myself to be honorable as well as also, effective.”

The president also blamed his sinking approval rating on negative media coverage. “Why do you think your polling is where it is?” Ruhle asked. “Well I don’t think people – by the way, every major one who won re-election, their polling numbers were what mine are now,” Biden said. “Put polling aside then, sentiment in this country despite all these wins is not very good,” Ruhle replied.

“All they’ve heard is negative news for three years, everything is negative. And I’m not being critical of the press, but you turn on the television, the only way you’re gonna get a hit is something negative,” the president said.
