REPORT: Man With Gun Arrested While ‘Looking For’ GOP Lawmaker
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said that a person is in custody in downtown Baton Rouge after rumors swirled of an active shooter situation in or near her office on Wednesday afternoon.
“There is not an active shooter in or around the Livingston Building,” Murrill announced in a social media post. “The situation is under control.”
A law enforcement source told local outlet WBRZ that a man looking for the attorney general’s office was taken into custody by law enforcement after he was seen skulking outside the building armed with a long gun and multiple magazines of ammunition. The situation led to a lockdown of the building.
Murrill’s office is located in the Livingston Building in downtown Baton Rouge, which houses several state agencies, including the attorney general’s office. A Republican, Murrill was first elected in 2023 and took office in January 2024 after previously serving as Louisiana’s solicitor general.

In a separate statement, Murrill said her office “received secondhand information stating that a subject possibly suffering from emotional distress was coming to the Attorney General’s Office and was believed to be in possession of a rifle.”
The man was located near the State Capitol and “was very cooperative and just wanted to speak to agents about a situation and to file a complaint,” the attorney general added. The man lawfully possessed the firearm, which was located in his vehicle.
He was released without any charges being filed. During the lockdown, one person, claiming to be an employee who was inside the building, claimed in a social media post that an active shooter had gained access to the Livington Building. This rumor was quickly addressed by the attorney general.
