BREAKING: NY Mayor Eric Adams Indicted By Federal Grand Jury

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with a. sprawling corruption probe, according to a report from the New York Times. Adams has claimed he is innocent and has accused the Biden Administration of targeting him for speaking out against the immigration crisis.

With the historic indictment, Adams, a Democrat, is the first sitting New York City Mayor to be indicted. The indictment is expected to be officially unsealed on Thursday by U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, sources familiar with the probe told the New York Post.

Adams is expected to surrender to federal authorities sometime next week, the sources added.

“I always knew that if I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target — and a target I became,” Adams said in a statement to the New York Post. “If I am charged, I am innocent, and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit.”

After news of the indictment broke, police could be seen setting up a perimeter around Gracie Mansion, the mayor’s home. Reporters are also being kept away from the residence.

Details about the indictment remain unclear, though the federal probe is believed to be focusing on allegations that the Turkish government illegally funneled funds to his mayoral campaign. It is also unclear whether the indictment has any relation to a series of raids that targeted senior Adams aides, as well as several additional New York City officials, earlier this month.

Federal prosecutors had previously demanded that City Hall officials produce all communications between the Adams Administration and the Turkish government, in addition to communications with five additional governments; Israel, Qatar, South Korea, Uzbekistan and China.
