‘Get Lost’: Brandon Gill Torches Al Jazeera Reporter Over Loaded ICE Question

U.S. Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) told an Al Jazeera English reporter to “get lost” when she attempted to ask him a bogus question about alleged deaths of illegal aliens in federal immigration custody.

Natasha Del Toro, a correspondent for the documentary series Fault Lines, approached Gill about deaths of detainees in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.

Gill asked who she was and which organization she represented. According to footage of the encounter, she accused him of “buying time” while he pressed the point. After roughly 30 seconds of repeated questions, she said her program aired on Al Jazeera English.

Gill then declined the interview. “Al Jazeera? No, I don’t have any desire to talk to Al Jazeera,” he said. “You guys can get lost. I don’t have anything to say to you guys. Why don’t you go somewhere else to report? I’m not talking to you guys at all. Get lost.”

Al Jazeera is funded by the government of Qatar. Gill’s decision not to answer questions from the outlet followed the reporter’s delayed disclosure of that affiliation. Fault Lines is Al Jazeera English’s long-form current-affairs series and has produced documentaries on U.S. immigration enforcement, including coverage of detentions and deportations.

Gill, the youngest Republican in the House and a member of the Oversight Committee, chairs its Task Force on Defending Constitutional Rights and Exposing Institutional Abuses. He has used committee hearings to question witnesses on immigration, institutional policy, and related issues.

The exchange came just after Gill stated that he would be putting his name in the running for leadership of the vital committee after current Chairman James Comer (R-KY) is approaching his term limits. Comer is also expected to announce a run for governor of Kentucky later this year, after the November midterm elections.
