Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) defended Joe Biden, who is three years her junior, by insisting age is “relative” and that Biden is to her “just a kid” during an interview with MSNBC as per the Daily Caller. Representative Pelosi said of Biden “I couldn’t be prouder of him. And again – we are very fortunate that he is in that position. But again age is relative.”
She then explained that “I was in L.A. for some Democratic stuff recently and I met with Norman Lear who’s 100, going on 101, and he was telling me about some new shows he was involved in; I was meeting with Frank Gehry, who’s a 90-something architect, showing me new buildings he’s building throughout the world. And they were like, ’80’s? He’s a kid.’ It’s relative. He’s younger than I am, so he’s a kid to me, as well.”
Yet, Biden’s age (or rather how the man reflects his age) does concern Americans. Biden’s incoherent mumblings and gaffes have been on display for all the nation to see as demonstrated by an awkward moment during his meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog. As one article described it “Joe Biden seemed to lose focus, appearing extra sleepy and mumbling incoherently during his statements…Biden mumbled before losing his train of thought. The scene looked like something between a prayer session and a nap for Sleepy Joe.”
Polls regarding Americans’ opinions about Biden and how he is settling into his sunset years have not been kind. Even amongst his own fellow Democrats, nearly 2/3rds expressed a desire for someone else to be at the top of the presidential ticket. Among the reasons for this desire, Democrats cited his age. As also observed by the Daily Caller the president has a history of being accident-prone as demonstrated by repeated falls.
The California Democrat made other statements on the same network praising Joe Biden’s presidency and attacking Donald Trump. She said of Biden that “[t]his is a person who respects other points of view, a person who has a vision about our country that is consistent with the vision of our Founders, that respects the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform to keep our freedom intact and again, honors the aspirations of our children.”
She went even further by lauding him as “someone who knows the issues, he is strategic in how to get things done…from the heart he is the most empathetic, unifying person we could have.”
