Ilhan Runs From Reporters After Her Son’s Felon Roommate Is Arrested

Rep. Ilhan Omar declined to answer questions on Capitol Hill about a police raid at the Minneapolis home shared by her son and his roommate, a convicted felon who was arrested on a weapons charge.

Omar, D-Minn., continued walking as reporters pressed her about the Aug. 25 search of the apartment shared by her 20-year-old son, Adnan Hirsi, and 22-year-old Abdulrahman Abdi.

“What do you know about the situation, why it happened in the first place?” Omar was asked while walking through the Capitol.

She did not respond.

Reporters continued questioning the Minnesota lawmaker as she walked away.

“Are you going to advise your son to move from his place? Away from that situation? We were just wondering what you thought about the whole thing,” she was asked.

Omar again did not answer.

Her son has not been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with the case, and neither has Omar.

The controversy began after Minneapolis police stopped Abdi during a traffic stop and cited him for driving without a license or proof of insurance.

Abdi was initially released while the vehicle was being impounded, but authorities later discovered a firearm inside the car, according to reports.

Because Abdi has a prior felony conviction, federal and state law generally prohibit him from possessing firearms.

Police later executed a search warrant at the Marquette Avenue residence he shared with Hirsi.

Multiple firearms and ammunition were reportedly recovered during the search.

Abdi was arrested and booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center on a weapons charge. Booking records show he was released the following day.

Authorities have said Hirsi was not arrested and has not been implicated in criminal wrongdoing.

Abdi has a prior criminal history that includes multiple arrests and a felony speeding conviction stemming from a 2024 case in which he was accused of driving more than 100 mph.

The raid drew additional attention because Omar has long supported stricter gun-control measures.

She has backed expanded background checks, red-flag laws and restrictions on certain semiautomatic firearms.

Omar’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital about the raid or her son’s living situation.

The congresswoman’s refusal to address reporters left unanswered questions about whether she had spoken with her son about the incident or whether he planned to remain at the residence.

Right-wing activist Benny Johnson reacted to the reports by writing, “Not a good look for Ilhan Omar,” on X.

The case remains centered on Abdi, while Omar and her son have not been accused of participating in any criminal conduct connected to the weapons investigation.
