Illegal Alien Shoves 83-Year-Old Air Force Veteran Onto Subway Tracks

An illegal immigrant from Honduras is facing multiple charges after police say he shoved two subway riders onto the tracks at an Upper East Side station on Sunday, leaving one elderly victim fighting for his life.

Bairon Hernandez, 34, was charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, assault, and reckless endangerment following the attack at the Lexington Avenue and 63rd Street station, authorities said.

Police say Hernandez came up behind 30-year-old Jhon Rodriguez on the southbound F and Q platform and pushed him onto the tracks.

Investigators say Hernandez then shoved a second victim, 83-year-old Air Force veteran Richard Williams, onto the tracks as well.

Both men were pulled back onto the platform before the next train arrived.

Williams suffered severe injuries when his head struck the tracks, including multiple fractures and bleeding on the brain, according to his granddaughter Samantha Loria.

“Thank God there wasn’t a train coming,” Loria said. “The hardest part is I can’t have a conversation, or hug him again.”

“He was a very selfless man. He would give anyone the last shirt on his back,” she added.

Rodriguez, speaking in Spanish, told CBS News New York he felt scared and disoriented after the attack.

“They should have more security at train stations,” he said.

Police released images of the suspect on Monday as they searched for him. By Tuesday morning, investigators had a person of interest in custody. By Tuesday evening, Hernandez had been formally charged.

The incident comes as subway push attacks continue to worry riders. According to NYPD data, there have been nine such incidents so far in 2026. There were 19 in all of 2025 and 26 in 2024.
