Infamous Democrat Rep. Widely Mocked For ‘Cringe’ Anti-Trump Stunt
An infamous Democrat in the U.S. House pulled a cringeworthy stunt to celebrate Black Music Month, and he’s still getting hate for it more than 24 hours later.
Congressman Hank Johnson (D-GA), who called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump following his 2019 conversation with Ukraine’s president, is picking up the guitar, and he wants to share his shaky chord progressions with the world.
In a painful video, Johnson spends more than two minutes strumming along to Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe” to celebrate Black Music Month, first commemorated in 1979 by Jimmy Carter, “to give some commentary on where we are now.”
“And if y’all don’t mind, I’ma just strum a little bit. Please don’t hold it against me,” he says before rocking out.
What follows is an unrhythmic, jangly jumble of the five-chord ballad about a man who shoots his lover, written by Billy Roberts in 1962 and popularized by Hendrix on his debut album, “Are You Experienced?”
“Hey Trump, where you going with that gun in your hand?” Johnson cries out. “I’m going down the street to shoot democracy, you know I wanna be a king someday.”

It was perhaps the worst rendition to ever slaughter one of the most celebrated hits by the greatest guitarist who ever lived, according to social media users who accused Johnson of rolling Hendrix over in his grave.
“The cringe level in this is immeasurable,” one defeated listener wrote back to Johnson.
“I never thought I would be jealous of Helen Keller, but here we are,” said another.
“I was going to put politics aside and thought he might have some talent so I watched. Holy s**t was I wrong, this is awful,” a third added.
Incredibly, Johnson’s communications director is a former “award-winning” journalist for the Atlanta Constitution-Journal, so it’s inexplicable why he allowed the video to be posted.
A member of Congress since 2007, Johnson represents Georgia’s 4th congressional district, encompassing the inner suburbs of Atlanta. He served as an associate judge and county commissioner in DeKalb County before winning his first race in 2006.
The majority-black district is reliably Democratic, but after this performance, Johnson might find himself facing a primary challenger.
The last cringeworthy sing-along by congressional Democrats occurred in March after Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) censured Al Green (D-TX) for shouting out during President Trump’s speech before Congress the prior month. The caucus gathered together in the well of the chamber to sing “We Shall Overcome” in an attempt to drown out Johnson following the vote.
