JD Vance Confirms Investigation Into Ilhan Omar’s Immigration Fraud
Vice President JD Vance confirmed Friday that the Trump administration is actively exploring legal options tied to alleged immigration fraud involving Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), escalating a long-running controversy into what could become a formal federal investigation.
The comments came during an interview with conservative commentator Benny Johnson on Friday, where Vance was pressed on prior claims that Omar may have violated immigration laws earlier in her life.
“We actually think that Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America,” Vance said during the interview. “We’re trying to look at what the remedies are.”
The vice president added that discussions are already underway within the administration, including conversations with senior officials such as Stephen Miller, to determine what legal pathways may be available.
“That’s the thing that we’re trying to figure out,” Vance continued. “What are the legal remedies now that we know that she’s committed immigration fraud? How do you go after her? How do you investigate her? How do you actually build the case necessary to get some justice for the American people?”
The allegations referenced by Vance stem from longstanding claims—denied by Omar—that she may have married her brother in order to circumvent U.S. immigration laws. While those claims have circulated for years in political circles, no court has formally ruled that such fraud occurred, and Omar has consistently rejected the accusations as baseless and politically motivated.

Still, Vance’s remarks signal a significant shift, suggesting the administration is now weighing whether to pursue denaturalization or other legal actions if sufficient evidence is found.
Legal experts note that denaturalization cases are rare and require a high burden of proof, typically involving clear evidence that citizenship was obtained through fraud or misrepresentation. If pursued, such a case could lead to serious consequences, including loss of citizenship and potential deportation.
Beyond the immigration allegations, Vance also raised concerns about broader fraud issues within segments of the Somali-American community, specifically referencing the case involving the “Quality Learning Center.”
“There’s a related issue,” Vance said. “She has been at the center of a lot of the worst fraudsters in the Somalian community.”
However, he stopped short of directly accusing Omar of involvement in that case.
“Do I know that Ilhan Omar was aware that the Quality Leasing Center was defrauding the American people? I’m not certain of it,” Vance said. “But we at least need to investigate it.”
“If people can commit wrongdoing without even the fear that they’re going to be found out, that’s a fundamental problem,” he added.
