JUST IN: MTG Announces Decision On Senate Bid

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced her decision on whether she will run for U.S. Senate in a lengthy X article on Friday night.

The seat currently held by Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) is widely viewed as the most vulnerable in the 2026 midterm elections. Governor Brian Kemp, a Republican, was long seen as a potential candidate when he finishes up his second term as governor in 2026, with polling long finding him comfortably ahead in a hypothetical matchup with Ossoff.

The popular governor turned the political world on its head last week, however, when Kemp announced that he will not be running for the seat.

As a result, state Republicans have been scrambling to find a replacement. Rep. Greene, whose tenure in the House has been defined by pro-Trump and anti-establishment politics, had hinted over the past several weeks that she would be interested in launching a Senate campaign.

With Georgia Republican leaders set to meet over selecting an alternative to Kemp in the next several weeks, Greene made her decision on whether to run for office in an editorial published to X.

Greene criticized the backdoor process through which state Republican leaders intend to select a candidate, comparing it to the formation of the Federal Reserve on the Peach State’s Jekyll Island.

“We all know how these elite retreats work. Many of the attendees hate Trump, backed DeSantis, look down on MAGA, and refused to fight when our election was stolen in 2020. Now, they’re trying to carefully select someone who can dress up in MAGA just enough to trick the grassroots into thinking they’re one of us—someone who won’t dare challenge the Republican establishment or disrupt the status quo that has failed the people time and time again,” the congresswoman wrote.

“These are the Republicans who see Trump as a speed bump, one they believe they can carefully roll over now that he won’t be on the ballot again.”

Greene went on to note that she has defeated a number of establishment primary challengers throughout her political career and remains committed to the Trump agenda. “And I’ll be blunt: the elites don’t speak for the people of Georgia who would walk through fire for President Trump. The political consultants embedded in the White House don’t know Georgia like I do. Our people are not stupid, and they’ve learned a powerful lesson over the last few years,” she continued.

The firebrand congresswoman went on to claim that Republican operatives have been sharing polls showing “any Republican” could beat Ossoff in recent weeks. “Beating Jon Ossoff? That would be easy. He’s a silver-spoon progressive who’s never held a real job or worried about putting a roof over his family’s head,” Greene continued, further noting that the self-styled “moderate” senator voted against a bill to ban biological men from women’s sports earlier this year, among other things.

After suggesting that she would indeed run for the seat, Greene ultimately stated that she believes she can best serve her constituents in her current capacity, adding that the Senate’s current model is broken.

“Here’s the hard truth: the Senate doesn’t work. It’s designed to obstruct the will of the people and protect the Uniparty’s grip on power. Nearly everything requires 60 votes to pass, and even when we have a majority, a pack of Republican Senators always votes ‘no’ on the bills that matter most,” the congresswoman wrote.

“You know who they are. You’ve watched them sabotage Trump’s agenda for years. They don’t fear you, and they don’t serve you. They’re protected by the same corrupt system of donors and consultants who manipulate you with fear.”

Greene went on to sharply criticize former Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and the chamber’s current leadership for failing to codify President Trump’s agenda and squandering numerous winnable races over the past several election cycles. “Even with a few good Republicans in the Senate, nothing changes,” Greene continued.

“So no, Jon Ossoff isn’t the real problem. He’s just a vote. A pawn. No different than the Uniparty Republicans who skip key votes to attend fundraisers and let our agenda fail. Someone once said, ‘The Senate is where good ideas go to die.’ They were right. That’s why I’m not running.”
