BREAKING: Longtime Host Mehdi Hasan Out At MSNBC

Try not to let the door hit you on the way out, Mehdi Hasan.

The longtime MSNBC host told viewers during his final show Sunday night that he will be separating from the network altogether, a departure from its previously announced plans to keep Hasan on as a political analyst and contributor following the cancellation of his show amid a shakeup of weekend programming.

“It’s been an absolute blast doing this live show on MSNBC for the past three years with an amazing team of producers behind me and with all of you watching at home … But, as we begin 2024 with an election coming, a war still on going, and too many Trump trials – honestly to even keep track of – and with this show going away, I’ve decided that it’s time for me to look for a new challenge. Tonight is not just my final episode of ‘The Mehdi Hasan Show,’ it’s my last day with MSNBC,” Hasan said in comments captured by The Daily Caller.

“Yes, I’ve decided to leave. To be clear, I am so proud, so, so proud of what we’ve achieved on this show on this network, and I can’t thank you enough for tuning in and for your support and for your feedback. But as they say, new year, new plans.”

In November, MSNBC announced it would alter almost every hour of its weekend shows amid dismal ratings, canceling Hasan’s hosting duties completely while shifting other hosts including Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders-Townsend, and Michael Steele to a single two-hour, politics-focused program called “The Weekend.” Both Sanders-Townsend and Menendez lost their own shows in order to join the new one.

Liberal commentators melted down at Hasan’s cancellation, blaming MSNBC for capitulating to critics who blasted him for sympathizing more with Palestinians than Israelis, citing his interviews with representatives of the Israeli government about civilian deaths in Gaza. Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA) was among those tasking the network to task for kicking its only practicing Muslim host to the curb.

“It is bad optics for MSNBC to cancel @mehdirhasan’s show right at a time when he is vocal for human rights in Gaza with the war ongoing,” he wrote on X. “As a strong supporter of free speech, MSNBC owes the public an explanation for this decision. Why would they choose to do this now?”
