NEW: ABC News Caught Embellishing Iran ‘Bombshell’ To Hurt Trump

ABC News is facing backlash after it quietly updated a report about an alleged Iranian drone threat to California, adding a key detail that was missing the first time around.

The network’s original Wednesday story cited a late-February alert warning of a potential Iranian plot but did not include that the intelligence was “unverified.”

“We recently acquired information that as of early February 2026, Iran allegedly aspired to conduct a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel off the coast of the United States Homeland, specifically against unspecified targets in California, in the event that the US conducted strikes against Iran,” ABC News reported the late February alert stated.

Days later, the outlet issued an editor’s note acknowledging the omission after publishing an updated version of the story.

“The FBI has posted a fuller version of its alert to California authorities, which includes that the information was unverified,” ABC News’ Wednesday editor’s note stated.

“The latest version of this story has been updated with the full statement.”

The change came after FBI spokesman Ben Williamson posted a screenshot of the alert on X, highlighting that the word “unverified” had been left out. The discrepancy raised questions about whether ABC News or its source failed to include the full context of the warning.

The White House quickly jumped on the report. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt called for a retraction, accusing the outlet of stoking unnecessary fear.

“This post and story should be immediately retracted by ABC News for providing false information to intentionally alarm the American people. They wrote this based on one email that was sent to local law enforcement in California about a single, unverified tip,” Leavitt wrote.

“The email even states the tip was based on *unverified* intelligence. Yet ABC News left out this critical fact in their story! WHY? TO BE CLEAR: No such threat from Iran to our homeland exists, and it never did.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, also sought to tamp down concerns, saying his administration had no indication of a credible danger.

His office said it was “not aware of any imminent threats at this time.”

The controversy comes as tensions between the United States and Iran remain high. The U.S. military launched targeted strikes against the Islamic Republic on Feb. 28 following a breakdown in diplomatic talks.

Fighting between the two sides was still ongoing as of Tuesday.
