Newly-released documents on the Biden-led FBI’s “Operation Arctic Frost,” the unofficial codename for former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s  open-ended investigation into President Trump’s challenges to the 2020 election, revealed that the operation spied on more than 160 prominent conservative lawmakers, political pundits, lawyers and more.

According to new disclosures from the House Judiciary Committee, Arctic Frost investigators utilized FBI field offices from across the country as part of the probe. Investigators also requested $16,600 to travel to conduct more than 40 interviews in various states.

A total of 45 senior Trump allies, including former White House chief adviser Steve Bannon, former Deputy Attorney General Jeff Clark, U.S. Rep. Scott Perry, as well as dozens of other lawmakers and lawyers, were potentially under active investigation. An additional 111 individuals, including a number of current administration officials and senior figures in the conservative movement, were also caught up in the probe.

Documents previously released by congressional investigators revealed that Arctic Frost was personally approved by a number of senior Biden officials, including former Attorney General Merrick Garland and former FBI Director Christopher Wray.

The investigation – launched by anti-Trump FBI agent Timothy Thibault in a breach of FBI protocol – formed the basis of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s elector case against Trump, the committee explained in a press release back in March. Upon opening the investigation, Thibault vowed it would be “prioritized over all others in the Branch” and commented that “it frankly took too long for us to open this [investigation].”

The latest disclosures build upon information information previously released by the Senate Judiciary Committee, which found that Arctic Frost expanded well outside Washington and targeted prominent conservative organizations and personalities, including the late Charlie Kirk.

“Some examples of the group that the Wray FBI sought to place under political investigation included the Republican National Committee, Republican Attorney General’s Association, and various Trump political groups. In total, 92 Republican targets, including Republican groups and Republican linked individuals, were placed under investigative scope of Arctic Frost,” committee chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said during a hearing last month.

“Arctic Frost wasn’t just a case to politically investigate Trump,” he added. “It was the vehicle by which partisan FBI agents and DOJ prosecutors could achieve their partisan ends and improperly investigate the entire Republican political apparatus.”

“They tried to force Charlie, and many other people and movements, out of business,” Trump said of the probe. “They Weaponized the Justice Department against Sleepy Joe Biden’s Political Opponents, including ME!”
