NEW: Iran’s Supreme Leader Still Unconscious, ‘Unable To Be Involved In Decision-Making’

Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is reportedly unconscious and “unable to be involved in any decision-making,” according to an intelligence memo cited in a report from the Times of London, weeks after he was badly injured in the opening U.S.-Israeli strikes that killed his father and set off the war.

The 56-year-old has not appeared publicly since those Feb. 28 strikes, which killed Iran’s longtime strongman Ali Khamenei and other senior figures. Since then, Iran has offered only written statements as proof that Mojtaba is running the country, fueling a growing chorus of questions about who is actually calling the shots in Tehran.

The memo, described as based on U.S. and Israeli intelligence, says Mojtaba is being treated in the holy city of Qom, about 87 miles south of Tehran.

“Mojtaba Khamenei is being treated in Qom in a severe condition, unable to be involved in any decision-making by the regime,” the assessment says.

Conflicting claims about his condition have swirled for weeks. Some reports have suggested he suffered minor injuries, including a fractured foot. Others have floated that he may be in a coma. His continued disappearance has only intensified speculation inside and outside Iran, especially as the regime tries to project stability during a regional war.

Despite that silence, state media has continued to attribute orders and messages to the new leader. One early statement, dated March 12 and distributed as written remarks, carried a vow of vengeance.

“I assure everyone that we will not refrain from avenging the blood of your martyrs,” the supreme leader supposedly said in that initial statement.

The message also escalated the regime’s posture beyond avenging Ali Khamenei’s death, framing retaliation as a running tab for each casualty.

“The retaliation we have in mind is not limited only to the martyrdom of the great leader of the revolution [Ali Khamenei]; rather, every member of the nation who is martyred by the enemy constitutes a separate case in the file of revenge.”

Another statement, reported April 1 and also attributed to Mojtaba, doubled down on backing anti-American and anti-Israel forces across the region.

“I firmly declare that the consistent policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in continuing the path of the late Imam and martyred leader, is based on continuing to support the resistance against the Zionist-American enemy,” said the statement claiming to be by Khamenei.

The problem for Tehran is credibility. If the intelligence memo is accurate and the supreme leader is incapacitated, the regime’s public messaging campaign starts to look less like leadership and more like a placeholder, with unknown decision-makers operating behind the curtain while Iran’s war machine keeps rolling.
