NEW: Obama Under Fire For Downplaying Attack On Trump At WH Correspondents’ Dinner
Barack Obama is catching heat after suggesting the motive behind Saturday night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was still unknown, even as an alleged manifesto laid out a clear anti-Trump target list, according to reports.
The missive, first reported by the New York Post, was allegedly written by suspect Cole Tomas Allen, 31, and described an intent to strike members of the Trump administration at the Washington Hilton gala.
“Turning the other cheek is for when you yourself are oppressed. I’m not the person raped in a detention camp. I’m not the fisherman executed without trial,” the manifesto reportedly read.
“I’m not a schoolkid blown up or a child starved or a teenage girl abused by the many criminals in this administration. Turning the other cheek when someone else is oppressed is not Christian behavior; it is complicity in the oppressor’s crimes,” it continued.

In one passage, Allen allegedly wrote: “I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.”
Hours later, Obama posted on X: “Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, it’s incumbent upon us all to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy,” adding that he was grateful to the Secret Service and “thankful that the agent who was shot is going to be OK.”
That phrasing triggered immediate blowback from Trump allies and Republicans who argued the alleged manifesto made the motive obvious.
“There is no ambiguity. It was a politically motivated attack driven by anti-Trump and anti-Christian bile. It’s wrong to downplay or obscure the obvious motive,” former Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin wrote.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin added: “Let’s not pretend to be this clueless about motive.”
Utah Sen. Mike Lee wrote: “It was politically motivated. He made that pretty clear.”
An account tied to the Republican National Committee also blasted Obama’s wording, writing: “Law enforcement officers confirmed this radicalized Leftist was targeting President Trump and his administration last night. Why are you lying?”

President Donald Trump, for his part, said the shooting reflected what he called dangerous rhetoric from the left, and he also pointed to the internet as a radicalizing force.
Authorities said one Secret Service agent was struck in a bulletproof vest and was expected to recover. The suspect is expected to face charges including assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon, along with firearms counts, according to published reports.
