NEW: Trump Goes Over Iran Options, Hints At Massive Decision In The Coming Days

President Donald Trump is reviewing possible next steps in the U.S.-Iran conflict this week, which have been reported as a choice among a negotiated agreement, continued economic isolation, or a significant expansion of military action.

While speaking with Fox News, Trump listed three primary paths for ending the conflict. These include Iran reaching a deal with the United States, the United States allowing the Iranian economy to deteriorate further under existing pressure, or a decision on whether to conduct far larger strikes. He asked when he might choose the last option and said Iran “better behave.”

Earlier in the week he told Axios he faced a “big decision” on whether to “annihilate” the Iranian regime. He added that “anything could happen.”

The comments come ahead of a planned Tuesday meeting with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Trump has said he wants to hear their views before deciding how to proceed. Any return to large-scale combat operations would require coordination with those regional partners.

U.S. officials have described the current situation as a holding pattern that cannot continue indefinitely. Forces remain at elevated levels in the region through the end of the year, and the naval blockade has blocked Iranian oil exports, according to Trump. The administration has also expanded sanctions and an economic-pressure campaign targeting additional sectors of Iran’s economy.

Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has increased from its lowest wartime levels but remains below pre-conflict volumes, while oil markets have experienced sustained volatility.

Trump has said several times in recent days that the war could end soon, provided Tehran accepts terms he considers acceptable. He has also said he has been in direct contact with Iranian officials.

A State Department official confirmed that a core Iranian delegation, including senior officials, will be permitted to attend the U.N. gathering in line with host-country obligations.

Trump has not indicated whether a decision will come before or after the November midterm elections. Some officials have suggested that major combat operations could resume after the elections if no agreement is reached.
