NEW: Trump Praised For Classy Move After Tragedy In NYC
Trump is at it again, this time earning widespread praise for his decision to attend the wake of fallen NYPD officer Jonathan Diller, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty in New York City. The 31-year-old officer was fatally shot in Queens during a routine traffic stop by a known felon.
Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for Trump, relayed the former president’s sentiments, stating to the New York Post, “President Trump is moved by the invitation to join NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller’s family and colleagues as they deal with his senseless and tragic death.”
Officer Diller, a dedicated and much-respected member of the NYPD, had served the city with distinction for over three years, making more than 70 arrests during his tenure.
His commitment to duty and the well-being of New York’s citizens made him a valued member of what his relatives called “the real Blue Bloods family,” a nod to the CBS series that celebrates a family’s legacy within the NYPD.
WATCH:
Police reported that 34-year-old Guy Rivera, a passenger in the vehicle, did not comply with orders to exit the car and instead aimed a firearm at the officers and fired it. New York Mayor Eric Adams revealed that Rivera has a history of over 20 arrests.
The shot hit Diller below his bullet-proof vest in the stomach area. In response, Diller’s partner shot back, injuring the car’s passenger, who was also hospitalized. Diller was then quickly transported to Jamaica Hospital but succumbed to his injuries there.

Diller leaves behind a wife, Stephanie, and a 1-year-old son, Ryan, who now face the daunting task of moving forward without their beloved husband and father. The tragedy of his loss has prompted an outpouring of support and condolences from the community, fellow officers, and now, from one of the nation’s most recognizable figures, Donald Trump.
The former president, known for his vocal support of law enforcement, has been critical of the lack of support for police officers from certain political quarters. During his presidency, Trump advocated for strong measures against crime, calling for tougher sentencing for criminals and expressing solid backing for police forces across the United States.
Trump has also criticized movements calling for the defunding of police departments, arguing that such measures would lead to increased crime rates. His administration made efforts to increase funding for law enforcement and to enhance protections for police officers, positioning himself as a staunch ally of law enforcement agencies.
The wake for Officer Diller is scheduled to take place on Long Island, with visitations open to the public. The specific details of Trump’s participation in the services have not been disclosed, but his presence is expected to draw significant attention.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre commented on the tragedy on Wednesday afternoon.
“This shooting is yet another painful reminder of the toll of gun violence, what it’s doing to inflict on families and our communities and our nation, communities, and our nation,” she said. “And that’s why the President signed more than two dozen executive actions.”
