One Of The Strongest Anti-Abortion Bills In The Nation Goes Into Effect This Week In Oklahoma

Pro-lifers across the nation will be celebrating today as one of the strongest anti-abortion laws in the United States is set to go into effect in Oklahoma. The number of pre-born children this law could end up saving is absolutely off the charts.

According to Just the News, any doctor who performs an abortion will be charged with a felony crime under the new law, which could come with a 10-year prison sentence and a maximum of $100,000 in fines, information gleaned from a report put out by KFOR-TV.

The measure includes only one exception, which is if the abortion is necessary to save the life of the mother. Some will disagree with that, but how often is it really needed to perform an abortion to save the life of the mother? I think it’s at least a good start.

Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt officially signed Bill 612 into law back in April 12, the TV station went on to report.

“State GOP Rep. Jim Olsen said on the House floor at the time that the measure will make abortion ‘entirely illegal,’” Just the News reported.

When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, it returned the right to regulate abortion back to the states, which is where it belongs according to the Tenth Amendment. This, of course, has alarmed the radical left because they know that it’s much easier for the pro-life crowds to organize efforts to outlaw the practice.

But thanks to that ruling, this law in Oklahoma has been made a reality and the number of lives who will benefit from it cannot be tabulated. So long as we ensure that the left is never given an opportunity to try and change things back in the other direction.

Here’s what the leftist publication NPR had to say about the passing of the bill back in April:

“We want Oklahoma to be the most pro-life state in the country,” Stitt said at a Tuesday morning bill signing. “We want to outlaw abortion in the state of Oklahoma.”

It’s the latest conservative jurisdiction to enact a new restriction on abortion, as Republican-led states across the country push to limit reproductive rights.

The recent wave of bills restricting abortion comes as the country awaits the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in a landmark reproductive rights case. Some legal experts predict the conservative court could weaken or even overturn the constitutional right to an abortion in the first two trimesters of pregnancy guaranteed in Roe v. Wade.

“The only person who should have the power to decide whether you need an abortion is you — no matter where you live, or how much money you make,” Tamya Cox-Touré, executive director of the ACLU of Oklahoma, said in a statement after the bill was passed. “But Oklahoma is facing an abortion access crisis that poses an immediate threat to our community’s health and reproductive freedom.”

The measure passed the House in Oklahoma by a vote of 70-14, a massive majority, and had been approved by the Senate in March 2020.
