“Realize What Moment We’re In”: Trump-Backed Senate Candidate Demands GOP Wake Up, Go after Big Tech

Ohio’s Trump-backed Senate candidate, JD Vance, is one of the tougher fighters in the party’s Senate contingent, a man built in the same mold as other champions of New Right-type ideology, namely Blake Masters in Arizona and Josh Hawley in Missouri.

And now he’s proving his credentials as one of those tough fighters, getting out there on the interview circuit and, rather than repeating the same tired tropes about corporate tax cuts and the like that Conservative, Inc. types always drone endlessly on about, is banging the war drums in demanding that the GOP take on Big Tech before it’s too late.

He said as much when speaking to Breitbart’s Alex Marlow about the dangers of Big Tech and how the GOP should go about dealing with it, saying:

I argue that Big Tech is too powerful and that conservatives need to wake up and realize what moment we’re in and actually go after these guys. The counterargument I always get is, ‘Well, they’re a private company, and of course we believe in free enterprise and we [believe] in capitalism.’

“This a perfect illustration of why that argument is so inadequate because these guys are not only censoring because the dictates of the market require them to. They’re sometimes censoring because the government shows up at their doorstep that says, ‘Do this, or else,’ and then they do it in a way that affects the presidential election.

Adding to that and explaining why it is that the GOP needs to take on Big Tech now, Vance explained how Big Tech’s censoring of the Hunter Biden story hurt Republican chances in 2020. Using that as an example of their power and how their interference hurts the GOP, he noted that it needs to be stopped or else the GOP will have trouble winning in the future. In his words:

According to independent studies — some done by pro-Biden groups — millions of votes were changed because of the lack of coverage of the Hunter Biden story, because it implicates the entire Biden family in corruption, and it wasn’t covered. It wasn’t shared on social media nearly the way it should have been, because our government told Mark Zuckerberg what to do with this digital media company.

“It is an earth-shattering story. Unless we rein in the technology companies and unless we rein in the amount of power and influence they have over American elections, we’re never going to win the long-term battle.

Indeed. The battle against Big Tech is one that the GOP can’t run away from or ignore. It’s one we need to win if we hope to win upcoming elections at a time when messages shared via social media are ever more important.

Vance’s comments came in response to Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s comments on Joe Rogan’s podcast. During that podcast appearance, Zuckerberg said that Facebook had limited distribution of the Hunter Biden laptop story after the FBI “warned” it of an upcoming release of Russian disinformation, saying:

The FBI, I think basically came to us — some folks on our team and was like, ‘Hey, um, just so you know, like, you should be on high alert. There was the — we thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. We have it on notice that basically there’s about to be some kind of dump of — that’s similar to that. So just be vigilant.’”
