BREAKING: Ron Paul Calls for the FBI to be Abolished
Writing in his weekly column for his website, the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity, former presidential candidate Ron Paul sounded off on the FBI, demanding that it be abolished and dismantled now that not so shocking but still disturbing revelations of its demands on Twitter to censor certain accounts.
In the column, Paul first reminded his readers what the Twitter Files have exposed the FBI as doing, saying:
“As we learn more and more from the “Twitter Files,” it is becoming all too obvious that Federal agencies such as the FBI viewed the First Amendment of our Constitution as an annoyance and an impediment. In Friday’s release from the pre-Musk era, journalist Matt Taibbi makes an astute observation: Twitter was essentially an FBI subsidiary.
“The FBI, we now know, was obsessed with Twitter. We learned that agents sent Twitter Trust and Safety chief Yoel Roth some 150 emails between 2020 and 2022. Those emails regularly featured demands from US government officials for the “private” social media company to censor comments and ban commenters they did not like.”
Putting his characterization of what the FBI was up to even more plainly, Paul said “US Federal government agencies literally handed Twitter lists of Americans it wanted to see silenced, and Twitter complied. Let that sink in.”
Because of the 1st Amendment, not only can the federal government not legally censor protected forms of speech, but also it can’t pressure private companies to do so for it. Just as the government cannot be part of other restrictions on civil rights, such as the enforcement of race-based restrictions in neighborhoods, the government cannot be involved in the censorship of protected speech.
Yet, as the Twitter Files show, that’s what the FBI was doing.
Concluding the column, Paul again reminded his readers of what the FBI and other parts of the national security state were doing to crack down on free speech in America and then demanded that the FBI be dismantled, saying:
So now we have proof that the FBI (along with US intelligence agencies and the Department of Homeland Security) have been acting through “private” social media companies to manipulate what Americans are allowed to say when they communicate with each other.
Is there anything more un-American than that? Personally, I find it sickening.
We do not need the FBI and CIA and other federal agencies viewing us as the enemy and attacking our Constitution. End the Fed…and End the Federal Bureau of Investigation!
Paul isn’t the only one to call for dismantling the FBI. Kari Lake, the Arizona gubernatorial candidate known for her America First views, did so as well, saying, during an appearance on Stephen Crowder’s “Louder with Crowder” podcast, that she would support defunding the FBI. Here’s that exchange:
Crowder: “Would you, I really think it’s important for our representatives, governors … everyone to try and apply pressure to Republicans of national influence to disband the FBI and make sure we reduce …
Lake: “Absolutely.”
Crowder: “… the scope of the IRS? It’s a litmus test for me now.”
Other conservative pundits and politicians have done so as well, furious with the FBI for the Russiagate disgrace, the banana republic-like raid on Mar-a-Lago, and the recent Twitter Files revelations.
