U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) has called on Muslims in here home state to vote against President Biden in the upcoming Democratic Primary. Tlaib has been highly critical of the president for working with Israel in their war against Hamas and has refused to commit to supporting Biden in November.
“If you want us to be louder, then come here and vote uncommitted,” Tlaib said in a new video statement on Saturday. The statement backs calls from local activists to vote “uncommitted” in the upcoming primary in order to send a message to President Biden.
Pro Palestine activists — including Rep. Tlaib — have accused Biden of committing genocide in Israel and have demanded that he call on the Israeli government to declare a ceasefire.
“It is important, as you all know, to not only march against the genocide, not only make sure that we’re calling our members of Congress and local electives and passing city resolutions all throughout our country,” Tlaib said while speaking outside an early voting location. “It is also important to create a voting bloc, something that is a bullhorn to say enough is enough. We don’t want a country that supports wars and bombs and destruction. We want to support life. We want to stand up for every single life killed in Gaza.”
“Right now we feel completely neglected and just unseen by our government. Right now we feel completely neglected and just unseen by our government,” the “squad” Democrat continued. “If you want us to be louder, then come here and vote uncommitted.”
Tlaib’s latest video statement represents another escalation in her feud with the White House over the war in Gaza. Back in November, Tlaib accused Biden of “supporting genocide” in Gaza and hinted at withholding her support from the president in November.
“Mr. President, the American people are not with you on this one,” she said, adding that Democrat voters will “remember in 2024.”
