Tim Walz Ripped For Claiming 2024 Election Was Rigged

After four years of roundly condemning President Donald Trump for continuing to question the results of the 2020 elections, the accusations have come full circle.

Tim Walz, once a shining star on the Democratic Party’s presidential ticket, has since fallen from grace following a series of self-inflicted wounds during speaking engagements where he has cheered for the decline of Tesla’s stock or mused that Elon Musk, the company’s South African-born owner and advisor to President Trump, has divided loyalties to the U.S.

“I have to be careful about being a smarta**. I was making a joke. These people have no sense of humor. They are the most literal people,” the Minnesota governor said on Saturday in response to backlash he received about last week’s comments.

Fresh off his apology, Walz may be forced to issue another. At a town hall with failed U.S. Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke, he entertained an audience member’s concern that Republicans tampered with ballot tabulation machines in Clark County, Nevada. The typically blue state went for Trump 53-47% last year.

A clip of the interaction shows the audience member insisting there is “some pretty convincing evidence of election tampering” by GOP operatives and asked Walz for his thoughts.

“Yeah,” Walz appears to reply over applause. “We saw just recently Donald Trump’s executive order to make it more difficult, specifically for women, trying to make it more difficult for women to be able to vote.”

He adds: “We see one of the first things they do is try and restrict the votes.”

In both of President Trump’s victories, claims of a rigged election were downplayed within the mainstream media compared to his own accusation that the 2020 election was stolen. Shortly after losing to Trump in 2016, Hillary Clinton accused her former opponent of relying on Russian interference to win.

“I was on the way to winning. We know that Putin was intent upon helping Trump. That’s no longer subject to debate,” Clinton said on MSNBC.

Karine Jean-Pierre, the former press secretary to Joe Biden, similarly tweeted after the 2016 election, “Stolen emails, stolen drone, stolen election …..welcome to the world of #unpresidented Trump.”

As Democrats head into their fifth month after a disastrous election year, party leaders are failing to coalesce behind a coherent communications strategy about their stunning loss to Trump and Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate. Walz, widely believed to be mulling a presidential run in 2028, has continued touring the country as he jockeys for the mantle left behind by President Biden.

Despite losing his own home county to Trump, Walz may be among Democrats’ slim pickings if they refuse to adjust their messaging, some say.

“If we don’t get our s*** together, then we are going to be in a permanent minority,” Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) told Politico.
