Trump Hints At Primary Challenge To Rep. Lauren Boebert After Massie Rally

President Donald Trump on Saturday suggested that he would consider endorsing a primary challenger to U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) after the House Freedom Caucus member campaigned for Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), a vehement critic of the president who is currently locked in a tight primary contest with a Trump-backed challenger.

Boebert, one of the few Republican members of Congress to back Massie publicly, traveled to Kentucky for campaign events over the weekend. The congresswoman spoke in favor of Massie at a local campaign event and expressed a number of pro-Massie messages on social media.

She did acknowledge that Massie — who voted against the Trump-backed Big Beautiful Bill last summer — currently finds himself in a tightly-contested primary race with former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein. “Below is my friend Thomas Massie. He loves America and is fighting to save it. Also below is my friend and President, Donald Trump. He’s put his life on the line to save this great country. I support both of these men. I’ve worked with both to preserve freedom and liberty,” Boebert wrote.

Trump responded on Truth Social with a detailed statement criticizing both lawmakers. “Is anyone interested in running against Weak Minded Lauren Boebert in Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District? Even though I long ago endorsed Boebert, if the right person came along, it would be my Honor to withdraw that Endorsement, and endorse a good and proper alternative,” the president stated plainly.

“Just let me know, or announce your Candidacy, and I will be there for you,” Trump continued. “Boebert is campaigning for the Worst ‘Republican’ Congressman in the History of our Country, Thomas Massie, of the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky, and anybody who can be that dumb deserves a good Primary fight!”

In a follow-up post, Boebert claimed that she was not concerned after the president all but guaranteed his support to a primary challenger. “Yes, I saw the President’s post. No, I’m not mad or offended. I knew the risks when I agreed to stand by my friend Thomas Massie. I was, and will be, America First, America Always, and MAGA. Onward.”

Boebert currently represents Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, which covers areas including the Eastern Plains and parts of the Denver suburbs. She previously represented the state’s 3rd Congressional District, where she narrowly won in a razor close 2022 re-election campaign by a margin of 546 votes against Democrat Adam Frisch.

Facing a challenging path to reelection in that district, she switched to the more Republican-leaning 4th District for the 2024 cycle, where she secured the nomination and won the general election with approximately 53.6 percent of the vote.

Boebert’s narrow electoral margins and tendency to under-perform the top of the ticket could leave her exceptionally vulnerable to a primary challenger should she draw one in the current cycle.
