VIDEO: Crowd Goes Wild When Trump Makes Appearance At Packed Texas-Tennessee College Football Game

President Donald Trump received a warm reception from the crowd when he made an appearance at the marquee college football matchup between top-ranked Texas and No. 14 Tennessee at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.

The noon kickoff marked the first regular-season meeting between the programs and the first on-campus visit by Texas to the 101,915-seat venue. The contest was a sellout and was televised nationally on ABC.

Prior to kickoff, Air Force One conducted a low-altitude flyover of the stadium as both teams warmed up. Trump landed at McGhee Tyson Airport around 11:30 am Eastern Time. He descended stairs marked with “Tennessee Air National Guard” and “Volunteers” and did not take questions from reporters. His motorcade reached the stadium at approximately 11:59 a.m., coinciding with the national anthem.

Gates opened at 9 am to accommodate enhanced Secret Service screening. The stands were nearly full by the time Trump arrived.

Upon arrival, the president sat in a private suite with Tennessee Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and other officials.  After Texas scored on its opening drive, the first television timeout brought Trump onto the stadium Jumbotron and the ABC broadcast. The public-address announcer introduced him as “the forty-fifth and forty-seventh President of the United States.”

On screen he smiled, waved, and pumped his fist several times.

The reception was overwhelmingly warm from the capacity crowd. Trump acknowledged the response by thanking fans and continuing to pump his fist.

The visit required coordination between the universities and the Secret Service regarding coach-to-player headset communications, which are customarily interrupted when a sitting president moves inside a venue. Both staffs prepared contingency plans.

Trump has attended multiple college football games during his presidencies, including previous SEC contests.
