WATCH: Boston Mayor Viciously Booed At Red Sox Game

The roar of Fenway Park wasn’t just for baseball on Opening Day.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu was met with a thunderous chorus of boos from the crowd Sunday afternoon, delivering a public embarrassment so intense that stadium cameras cut away to the American flag mid-segment.

The jeering came before the Red Sox secured a dramatic 5-4 walk-off win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the bottom of the 10th inning, thanks to Wilyer Abreu’s game-winning single off the Green Monster. But the biggest hit of the day might’ve been the political backlash aimed at the city’s top official.

Wu, joined by her infant child, took the field as part of the ceremonial festivities. But what should have been a proud hometown moment turned into a unified display of discontent from the Fenway faithful. In a city known for its fierce loyalty—and equally fierce opposition when riled—the reaction spoke volumes.

The booing follows Wu’s official launch of her re-election campaign just one day earlier on April 5. The Democrat mayor, who made history in 2021 as the first woman and first person of color elected to lead Boston, has touted major progressive initiatives, including her push for climate action, housing affordability, and educational equity.

But not everyone is cheering.

Conservatives and critics have slammed Wu’s sanctuary city policies, warning they could endanger public safety. More recently, she’s come under fire for a ballot shortage fiasco during the November 2024 elections, with state officials ordering policy revisions to avoid future failures. The misstep raised serious concerns about the integrity and preparedness of Boston’s election infrastructure under her leadership.

Wu’s campaign team has remained tight-lipped on the incident, focusing instead on her platform for the November 2025 race, where she hopes to fend off mounting opposition and secure a second term.
