WATCH: DeSantis Rips Democrats For Using Climate Change To Control Americans; “Give Me A Break”

On Friday Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis criticized the Democrats’ focus on climate change, describing it as a “thinly veiled attempt at social engineering” during an interview with Tucker Carlson. The Republican leader drew attention to the broader environmental challenges facing Florida, most notably the worsening red tide problem.

In the interview, DeSantis underscored the importance of addressing tangible environmental issues, rather than solely focusing on the specter of climate change. “We’ve actually created an infrastructure in Florida. Democrats and the left talk about global warming. They’re going to change the climate, forcing you into an electric vehicle is not going to change the climate when China is building a new coal plant every week,” DeSantis remarked.

Governor DeSantis pushed back against what he sees as futile attempts to control people’s behaviors, framing it as a form of “social engineering” that he believes won’t succeed. Instead, DeSantis proposed that the focus should be shifted towards tangible issues that directly affect the people of Florida.

“This is trying to control your behavior; it’s social engineering, and it’s not something that’s going to work,” DeSantis said. “So what I’ve said in Florida is, okay, Democrats, I’m actually going to focus on the environment that Floridians like and enjoy.”

DeSantis’s remarks come amid increasing concern over the rising incidence of red tides in Florida, which are harmful algal blooms that can harm marine life, disrupt tourism, and even pose health risks to humans. Some evidence suggests that the issue may be worsening, leading to more serious impacts on both the state’s environment and economy.
