WATCH: MSNBC Guest Calls For New ‘Patriot Act’ To Target Conservatives, Far-Left Host Agrees

A guest on MSNBC raised eyebrows when he suggested that new surveillance laws be passed to target conservative activists and officials he accused of “openly calling for violence.”

Paul Rieckhoff, a national security analyst for the liberal network, said surveillance laws like the Patriot Act, passed following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, are no longer serving their intended purpose when groups like the Oath Keepers and individuals like former Trump advisor Michael Flynn are able to speak and assemble without being spied on.

“After 9/11, the laws didn’t work. They made massive changes to respond to a new threat, and I think we have to face the fact that many of our structures, laws, and policies may not work. After 9/11 we created the Department of Homeland Security, there was the Patriot Act, there was massive change in our entire society to face the number one threat… I think we need the same kind of tectonic shift. It’s gotta be more than ‘see something, say something,'” said Rieckhoff.

“Maybe our laws need to change to respond to the fact that someone like Mike Flynn, the former national security director, is openly calling for violence consistently,” he added.

The suppression of conservative voices has been a consistent message among both Republican and Democratic presidential candidates, especially in the weeks since a judge chided the Biden administration for pressuring Big Tech companies to silence dissident opinions and accounts it deemed hazardous to national interests. The decision emboldened conservatives who for years have argued that national surveillance agencies have targeted Americans simply for speaking out about issues such as the Covid-19 vaccines.

Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who is widely known as a vaccine skeptic, has proposed a three-pronged plan for dismantling surveillance agencies he claims are suppressing Americans’ civil liberties. Last week the ostracized Kennedy family member was nearly censored from testifying before a congressional committee after Democrats accused him of making bigoted remarks in relation to the Covid vaccines and certain ethnicities. RFK has revealed the steps he takes to avoid facing the wrath of agencies like the CIA and NSA, saying he’s “gotta be careful” as he travels the country in his challenge to President Biden.
