WATCH: Paul Ryan Smugly Says He Will Boycott RNC If Donald Trump Wins Primary
Paul Ryan, a longtime never-Trumper and a member of Fox Corporation’s Board of Directors, reasserted his disdain for former President Donald Trump in a Thursday interview. Ryan says he would skip the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee if Trump wins the GOP nomination.
When asked where he’ll be during the convention, Ryan responded, “It depends on who the nominee is. I’ll be here if it’s not named somebody Trump.”
“You won’t show up if it’s Trump?” FOX6‘s Jason Calvi asked. “I’m not interested in participating in that, no,” Ryan responded. The former Speaker of the House went on to proclaim he would support anybody but Trump.

“The first GOP presidential debate’s going to be in Milwaukee this year. On that stage could be former President Trump and others. Who do you back in 2024?” Ryan was asked.
“That would be the person not named Donald Trump, so I don’t really have a dog in the fight,” Ryan said before claiming the GOP will lose if Trump is the GOP nominee. “If we nominate Trump again, we’re going to lose. It’s just that clear. We lost with him in ‘18, ’20 and ’22. We know this. He will cost us another election, so I’m just excited about somebody not named Trump.”
In May 2016, Ryan made similar comments. At the time, the establishment Republican figure said he was “just not ready” to support the GOP nominee. Ryan often complained of Trump’s rhetoric throughout the 2016 election cycle, claiming it was “not conservatism” and “not who we are as a party.”
“We’re headed the wrong direction,” Ryan said of Trump’s leadership in 2016.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Feb. 14 contrasts with Ryan’s recent comments on Trump. The 45th president still wields massive amounts of influence within the Republican party’s voting bloc, the poll shows. “It found that Trump currently has the lead among both declared and potential candidates, with 43 percent of respondents indicating that they would back him,” Trending Politics reported.
The poll showed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has yet to officially declare his candidacy, is trailing Trump by over 10 points. Other potential nominees such as former Vice President Mike Pence and Former South Carolina Republican Governor Nikki Haley are nowhere close to Trump in terms of support within the GOP.
