WATCH: Reporter Asks About ‘Clinton Body Count’ During WH Press Briefing
An independent journalist ventured where no member of the White House Press Corps has likely ever gone before, asking on Monday about the so-called “Clinton body count” while listing off several suspicious deaths that have befallen aides or associates of the powerful presidential couple.
Shortly after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt convened a 9 a.m. briefing, she turned to a reporter with ZeroHedge, a politics-adjacent blog that mainly covers financial markets. Today, however, the focus was entirely on the Clintons because of a Sunday night post by President Donald Trump.
“President Trump posted Truth Social, a video highlighting what most people call the Clinton body count, which is the strange number of suicides that seem to happen in Clinton circles,” the reporter began.
He cited the death of Mark Middleton, a former Clinton staffer who was “found dead on a Clinton Foundation property” and had apparently “shot himself in the chest with a shotgun and also hung himself from a tree with an extension cord.”
Middleton’s death in 2022 was covered by the Washington Post, and the ZeroHedge reporter challenged any Post colleague in the room to defend how Middleton was able to both shoot himself in the chest and die by hanging.
“So I have no idea how somebody commits suicide that way, but if the Washington Post is here, maybe you can enlighten us as to how that was actually a suicide.”
The reference was a preface to the reporter’s actual question, which related to a bombshell Sunday night interview where FBI leaders Kash Patel and Dan Bongino confirmed authoritatively that Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in 2019.
“There’s still a lot of questions around that case,” he went on. “You’ve released phase one of the Epstein files. What was missing from that is any connection to his ties to intelligence agencies. And that’s really the whole story, that not just trafficking young girls, but doing it on behalf of intelligence agencies, and even potentially as part of a blackmail ring with potential ties to the Israeli government.”
“For phase two, when can we expect it? Will it have information pertaining to those aspects of the Epstein case?”
Leavitt did not offer much in the way of response, instead directing ZeroHedge to the U.S. Justice Department and Attorney General Pam Bondi, who will be coordinating the second release of previously undisclosed documents.
“I know the Attorney General has committed to releasing those files. I would defer you to the Department of Justice on her timeline, but when she has made a promise in the past, she has kept it, and I’m certain that she will in this case as well,” she replied.

A page dedicated to the Clinton body count conspiracy theory lists 20 men and women who have mysteriously died while in service or adjacent to the Clintons. Some, notably Epstein, were facing decades in prison for criminal allegations. Others, such as former White House aide Vince Foster, saw their deaths attributed to depression.
The stubborn belief in murderous Clinton activity has extended in some way to the Obamas, who critics implicated in the surprise 2023 death of their chef while he was paddle boarding outside their compound in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Local authorities have offered conflicting reports about the former president’s vicinity to the crime scene, saying he was not in the area, while the Massachusetts State Police reportedly spoke with him shortly after the death occurred.
