WATCH: Thousands Of Students Line Up Outside TPUSA Tent At PSU-Oregon Game
Ahead of the primetime clash between Penn State and Oregon at Beaver Stadium, thousands of college students lined up outside the Turning Point USA tent after the organization announced that they would be giving out 5,000 “Freedom” shirts in honor of Charlie Kirk.
Kirk wore the now-iconic “Freedom” shirt on September 10 while speaking with college students at Utah Valley University before he was shot and killed by a single bullet fired by a far-left gunman. The tragic assassination sent shockwaves across the political world, while Turning Point USA, now headed by Charlie’s widow, Erika, has vowed to carry on his work.
“In the vein, and in honor of Charlie Kirk, we are going to fight cultural battles, and we are going to win them in an arena that Charlie loved so very much – college football,” Benny Johnson, a conservative political commentator and longtime friend of Kirk’s, told Fox News.
“Turning Point USA, at the game of the week, Penn State versus the Oregon Ducks, this is going to be a massive game. This was a game that Charlie Kirk was going to attend. Charlie Kirk loves Oregon, but he also has a bunch of fans at Penn State and has done huge events there,” Johnson continued. “Turning Point USA is going to be handing out 5,000 Charlie Kirk freedom shirts at that game.”
Johnson noted that the shirt fits perfectly with Penn State’s “whiteout” theme, when students and fans are encouraged to wear white. “So, it’s gonna look great in the stands,” Johnson said. “We want the student section to be popping with Charlie Kirk freedom shirts for the whiteout at Penn State this weekend.”
On Saturday morning, thousands of students lined up outside Turning Point’s tent a full 10 hours before kickoff. Footage shared by Johnson showed the line stretching nearly a mile long.
“What are you hearing from these students wearing the same shirt Charlie Kirk was?” Johnson was asked by Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany.
“Yes. So the goal was to make students scared. The goal of evil always is to shut down the voices of those speaking truth. That is where Christian martyrdom comes from. Christian martyrdom comes from people speaking truth about our faith, about our country, about our nation. That’s what Charlie was doing. That’s why Charlie was a Christian martyr. And evil intended to silence that voice,” he responded.
“But the way that God will well, ladies and gentlemen, what man intends for evil, God intends for good. And what you’ve done is made tens of millions of Charlie Kirk,” Johnson added, causing the crowd to erupt in cheers.
“People have been out here since 6 a.m. waiting to wear a Charlie Kirk freedom shirt. It’s the single biggest backfire in history and it’s how God works. You strike Charlie down, you will just make his message stronger.”
