Woke Hollywood Flops AGAIN As Big Budget Film Falters Over Holidays

In another sign pointing to the decline of the mainstream Hollywood entertainment industry, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” from the DC Extended Universe reportedly hit box offices with a barely perceptible ‘thud’ in its opening weekend.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, estimates have Aquaman 2, starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard, capturing somewhere between $37 million and $43 million in U.S. box office sales over the Christmas weekend, even one boosted by Christmas Day falling on a Monday. By comparison, the devastating flop from Disney’s competing Marvel Studios, “The Marvels” languished with a $46.1 million opening box office.

If even the high end of the Reporter’s estimate proves true and the film’s earnings can’t pick up speed quickly, then Aquaman 2, with its massive $205 million budget, could be the eighth consecutive box office bomb of Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe as reported by Comic Book Movie.

The first Aquaman film released in 2018, also over a four-day Christmas weekend, was one of the few bright spots in the largely disastrous film franchise bringing in a very respectable $105.4 million American Tribune reported. Comparatively, the sequel was expected to perform somewhat well up against a generally weak release slate that includes “Wonka” and the musical reboot of “The Color Purple,” from Oprah Winfrey.

In posts to X, many industry analysts such as The Nerd Cave expressed satisfaction with the film and confusion about its poor box performance. The Nerd Cave wrote, “Actually enjoyed Aquaman 2. Don’t know why it’s not doing well in theaters.”

Many on the platform suggested that the controversy surrounding cast member Amber Heard’s headline-grabbing legal struggle with Johnny Depp could have affected the film.

Conversely, YouTube culture commentator Vanessa aka Gothix suggested on Monday that the film was suffused with leftist propaganda. She wrote, “Saw the new Aquaman and I’m 99.9% sure it was written by a liberal child. It’s a corny global warming plot with subtle “you will eat ze bugs” WEF propaganda. And this is coming from someone who had zero expectations since I never watched the first movie.”

She quipped, “Popcorn was good tho.”

Similarly, commentator RazörFist posited Tuesday, “Nevermind analyzing why Aquaman 2 failed. I’m more interested in what mass brain trauma event made the FIRST Aquaman a success.”

According to Rotten Tomatoes as of this report, the critical reception of Aquaman 2 was poor, scoring a 36% with professional critics, but audiences have so far received it generally well at 79%.
