WATCH: Kari Lake Reveals New Details After Shocking Bribery Tape: ‘Our Jaws Dropped’

Arizona U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake wasn’t planning to go public with evidence that insiders tried to bribe her from running, but after listening to a recording of the exchange 11 months later she felt there was no other choice.

Speaking on Glenn Beck’s Blaze TV, the spitfire conservative recounted her decision to record a conversation with former Arizona GOP chair Jeff DeWit that occurred 11 months ago.

“I didn’t want to release anything and I also didn’t listen to it. I taped it because I was afraid there was going to be a physical threat, and when there wasn’t I just kind of put, you know, the file away and never even dealt with it,” she told Beck.

During a recent speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference last summer, Lake described how she was bullied into dropping out of the Republican race to take on Senator Kristen Sinema (I-AZ). Earlier this week, she released a recording of the call with DeWit where he claimed “very powerful people” from the “east” were willing to pay untold sums to push her out. Only after listening to a recording recently did she realize how nefarious the offer really was.

“I was eating dinner with my husband and my daughter was with us, and I happened to track it down, found it and hit play while we were eating dinner and literally, as vivid as I recalled it — and I think in my speech at CPAC I described it pretty well — our jaws dropped to the floor. We were shocked. I said oh my gosh, this is so much worse than I even remembered it,” she said.

DeWit resigned on Thursday after claiming that the Lake campaign was threatening to release even more “selectively edited” recordings of him.

“I am truly unsure of its contents,” DeWit said of the alleged recording. “But considering our numerous past open conversations as friends, I have decided not to take the risk. I am resigning as Lake requested, in hope that she will honor her commitment to cease her attacks, allowing me to return to the business sector — a field I find much more logical and prefer over politics.”

The controversy has persisted in the national news cycle for days and boosted Lake’s national profile. She has already raised more than $2 million since announcing her run in October. Lake is expected to face Congressman Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) in the general election in what will be a three-way race against Sinema.
