Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker Stuns Reporter With Pro-Gun Response: ‘We Need Strong Fathers’
Harrison Butker, the kicker for this year’s Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs team, delivered a powerful message in support of fatherhood after a reporter asked for his thoughts on gun control following a deadly shooting at the team’s victory parade earlier this year.
Butker, who earned his third ring with the Chiefs back in February, stunned a reporter with Catholic news outlet EWTN into silence after stating that “strong fathers” are the best answer to America’s annual spate of mass shootings, not more gun control.
“At the end of the day, this is degenerate violence and it should not be occurring,” he said.
He added, “I think we need strong fathers in the home. I think we need men that are leading, that are setting good examples, that are teaching the young men in our society that violence is not the way to handle our disputes.”

On February 14th, a gunfight broke out in the streets around Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri during the Chiefs victory parade, prompting fans to run for cover as police swarmed the area. One woman was killed.
Within a week, authorities had charged Dominic Miller, 18, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Lyndell Mays, 23, of Raytown, as well as two juveniles with four felony counts, including second-degree murder.
“Many, many children were injured. A beautiful young lady was killed over someone getting offended and turning to violence to handle that dispute,” Butker continued.
“It’s so sad. I don’t think guns are the issue. I think we need fathers in the home that are being great examples for our youth.”
Butker, a father of two, has been a leader both on and off the field for his young son and daughter. Along with his wife Isabelle, he has formed a family foundation focused on combatting human trafficking and child mentoring.
The seventh-round draft pick has also spoken out about his support for pro-life policies, calling aborted children the “greatest victims in our society” during his same interview, according to Fox News.
“The unborn, to me, are the greatest victims of our society,” he said. “They don’t have a voice. They don’t necessarily look like humans. They’re not very big. They can’t fight for themselves. There’s not a lot of people that are fighting for them.”
“And I just think it’s a great atrocity that’s occurring in this country with massacring the unborn. I felt like there’s no better place to send this message than to the masses and to represent the unborn at a place like the White House where unfortunately their voice is not heard.”
Other leaders in football, including pro-life Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, have voiced their support for conservative causes. Harbaugh was spotted earlier this year at the annual March for Life in D.C.
