Democrat Senator Laughs Off Criticisms Of Hunter Biden Plea Deal
Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) defended Hunter Biden’s generous plea deal and his invitation to a state dinner just days after he pled guilty to federal charges during an appearance on Meet The Press Sunday.
“Do you think it was appropriate for Hunter Biden to be at the same event as the Attorney General Merrick Garland was in the same week he accepted a plea deal?” host Chuck Todd asked.
Klobuchar responded by sidestepping recent revelations about how the investigation was conducted and claim that a Trump-appointed U.S. attorney made a fair decision.
“I think as the president explains; that’s his son. That’s a separate thing,” she said of Hunter’s attendance at the dinner.
“That decision was made by an independent prosecutor, who was a Trump-appointed U.S. attorney, who had 10 years of experience, well respected. Philadelphia Inquirer reported that he was a registered Republican. He looked at the facts and evidence and made that decision,” she went on to say.
Earlier this week, Hunter Biden agreed to a plea deal on two misdemeanor tax violations as well as a gun charge that will allow him to escape without prison time. The deal has been shredded by legal analysts who have pointed out that the gun charge alone generally results in at least a two-year prison sentence.
Days later, Hunter Biden was invited to a lavish state dinner held in honor of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he wined and dined with none other than Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Klobuchar opted not to mention the latest revelations from IRS whistleblowers who worked on the case. Whistleblowers revealed several instances of what they described as interference over the course of the slow-moving investigation, including one instance where a DOJ official tipped off the president’s son about a looming raid on his storage facility.
Investigators also revealed the existence of a WhatsApp message in which the president’s son threatened to “destroy” a Chinese business partner unless he honored his “commitments.” Hunter Biden told the Chinese national that his father was “in the room” while demanding payments.
Instead of investigating the message, investigators were told to stand down.
“If that’s what the Republicans want to run on in the coming election, good luck,” Klobuchar said. She went on to claim that President Biden has added “13 million jobs” and has brought manufacturing back.
