Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was reportedly caught on a hot microphone making critical remarks about fellow Republican candidate Nikki Haley.

In the audio captured, Christie is heard saying, “Yeah, that’s what you get. I mean look, she spent 68 million so far. She’s on TV. Spent 68 million so far. 59 million by DeSantis. And we spent 12. I mean who’s punching above their weight and who’s getting a return on their investment.”

“And she’s going to get smoked,” Christie said. “And you and I both know it. She’s not up to this. She’s still 20 points behind Trump in New Hampshire.”

The recording also suggested that DeSantis had contacted Christie, although details of the communication were not fully captured before the feed was cut.

Christie, a prominent figure in the party, is known for his outspoken nature, which has been a hallmark of his political and media career. The former New Jersey Governor is set to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race some time Wednesday night. The announcement is anticipated at a town hall event in New Hampshire.

Christie’s campaign was marked by strong opposition to Trump. Amid increasing pressure to step aside for a more competitive contender against Trump, Christie is anticipated to be stepping down. Recent polls show former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley as the leading candidate behind Trump.

Haley is anticipated to gain an advantage in the polls as a result as well.

Christie formally launched his 2024 presidential campaign in June 2023 in New Hampshire seeking the Republican Party nomination. His campaign was characterized by a strong focus of criticizing Trump, positioning himself as the anti-Trump figure within the Republican primaries.

Christie also pledged not to support Trump if he became the nominee, criticizing him for the under-performance of Trump-endorsed candidates in the 2022 midterm elections and for his handling of government documents.

Christie participated in multiple Republican presidential primary debates, where he was one of the more active participants.

However, his campaign encountered difficulties in garnering significant support, especially as Haley inadvertently became the prominent competitor against Trump. The former New Jersey Governor concentrated his campaign efforts on New Hampshire, aiming to attract voters who were hesitant about Trump.
