‘The Culture Has Shifted’: Joe Rogan Says The Left Has Embraced Authoritarianism

Top-rated podcast host Joe Rogan commented on the growing authoritarian nature of the modern left, stating that the left now embraces policies that were historically associated with the opposite side,

“The culture has shifted between right and left authoritarianism, and now people don’t recognize that… if you just stopped looking at it in terms of red and blue, look at the actions,” Rogan said. “Whether it’s war, suppression of free speech, pharmacological interventions that are mandatory. Whatever the f**k it is, that all used to be associated with the authoritarian right. And now, those things are being the left.”

“And I think it’s just an ideology thing and we get confused and we think, ‘we’re on the right side, we’re on the right side! And if our side that’s saying this, then for sure it’s the right thing to do!’ And no one is critically thinking about this,” Rogan continued.

While Rogan has described himself as left leaning in the past, he has hosted guests from across the political spectrum and has gone against left-wing orthodoxy on numerous occasions. Last year, the Joe Rogan Experience host was targeted for censorship over his views on COVID-19 and vaccine policies.

A number of doctors and academics signed a letter calling on Spotify to de-platform Rogan. Signees accused him of being a “menace to public health” and claimed he routinely spreads “misinformation.” Weeks later, the podcast host was the subject of a number of smears that referenced old podcasts where he used racial slurs in context. This too led to calls for his removal from Spotify.

Most recently, an attorney for Ray Epps — a man who encouraged protesters to enter the Capitol before and during the January 6 election protests — said that Rogan holds more responsibility for the minor riot than his client.
